Secure the Workpiece: Before drilling, the wood must be securely clamped or fixed to the workbench to avoid drilling while holding the workpiece. An unsecured workpiece is prone to swinging under high-speed rotation, which may cause the drill bit to break or injure the operator.
Properly Install the Drill Bit: Ensure the woodworking drill bit is securely installed in the drill chuck or drill press chuck, and confirm that the drill bit is perpendicular to the workpiece. Loose or tilted installation may cause off-center drilling, jamming, or even breakage.
Control Speed and Pressure: Select an appropriate speed according to the hardness of the wood to avoid overheating the drill bit or scorching the wood; apply even and appropriate pressure, do not force it in, to avoid bending or breaking the drill bit.
Maintain Cleanliness and Sawdust Removal
During drilling, regularly clean the drill bit and sawdust from the hole to keep the auger grooves clear and prevent blockages that could cause the drill bit to jam or generate excessive frictional heat.
Check Drill Bit Condition
Before use, check the woodworking drill bit for sharpness, cracks, or deformation. A dull or damaged drill bit is not only inefficient but also prone to breakage or tearing at the hole edge.
Avoid Touching Rotating Parts
Keep your hands away from the rotating parts of the drill bit during operation. Do not touch the high-speed rotating drill bit with your hands or clothing to prevent accidental entanglement.
