A hole saw, also known as a hole opener or hole saw, is a special circular saw used in modern industry or engineering to process circular holes. It is simple and flexible to operate, portable, safe, and widely applicable. When mounted on a regular electric drill, a hole saw (or cutter) can easily cut round, square, triangular, straight, and curved holes on any surface, including flat surfaces and spherical surfaces, of various materials such as copper, iron, stainless steel, and plexiglass.
A hole saw typically consists of a cutter head, a connecting rod, and a guide drill. The cutter head is responsible for the actual cutting of the material, the connecting rod transmits the rotational power of the electric drill, and the guide drill provides positioning, ensuring accurate hole placement and preventing deviation or slippage.
Unlike a regular drill bit that "drills a point," a hole saw uses a ring-shaped cutting edge to perform circumferential cutting on the material surface, gradually forming a circular hole. This method offers a larger cutting area but higher efficiency, making it particularly suitable for processing large-diameter holes.
