Saw blade specifications are typically expressed by several basic parameters, including length, width, thickness, and tooth pitch (TPI, teeth per inch). The specifications vary greatly depending on the intended use. Hand saw blades and machine saw blades are not entirely identical in standard, but the core principle is to match these dimensions to the cutting needs of different materials.

 

Regarding length, the saw blade needs to match the saw frame or machine model. For example, hand saws commonly come in 300mm and 350mm lengths, while band saw blades can reach several meters or even longer. Width and thickness directly affect the rigidity and cutting stability of the saw blade. Wide and thick saw blades are more suitable for straight cutting and hard materials, while narrower saw blades are more suitable for curves or fine machining.

 

Toe pitch is one of the most critical parameters in saw blade specifications. A smaller tooth pitch (higher TPI) results in a finer cut but slower speed, suitable for thin sheets or delicate materials such as metals; a larger tooth pitch provides stronger chip removal and higher cutting efficiency, suitable for softer or thicker materials such as wood. Therefore, in practical selection, the appropriate tooth profile must be determined based on the material hardness and cutting precision.

 

Different saw blade materials are also part of the specifications. For example, high-carbon steel saw blades are suitable for ordinary wood, bimetal saw blades are suitable for metal cutting, and carbide saw blades are used for high-strength materials. Only by considering all these parameters can the appropriate saw blade model be matched to the specific working conditions.
